5/10/2013 1178 update. As work continues on the other buses at some pace, Bernard has decided that now is the time to move 1178 undercover so that her restoration can be completed for next year. We have decided to remove the complete windscreen so the whole front end can be sorted out. Also this will give us chance to remove the wheelchair door and install the emergency window again. She will also have a service too.
6/7/2013 Busy times. As detailed in Picture Of The Month, 7656 has joined the collection and will be used for parts and as a store shed/workshop. A new page will be added for her on the site in time, but meanwhile, here are some more exclusive pictures of her. Also, work continues on 7980 and getting 1178 ready to move into undercover storage. As stated last month, 7980 is having an Invicta Radio advert added as well as giving her existing livery a freshen up too. Hopefully all of our EK vehicles will be ready for the big East Kent 100 in 2016!
2/6/2013 Welcome to June...This year continues to fly by so quickly. As stated in Picture Of The Month, Nuw attended Deal Motor Show on 25th May, the full report can be seen here. We really enjoyed this show and I took some lovely pictures of Nuw heading to the event stuck in traffic. Paul and myself have also started stripping out 7681's rear end in readiness to get to the leaking oil seal in the prop shaft. Along with 1178 that's our two big projects started now. The parts for 1178's metal work are being all sorted out by Paul and will hopefully be fitted by us when we get time. I'm hoping this month to put 5137 up for test again now that the brakes have been sorted out (back in March). The delay in sending her back for test was trying to find a local test centre to avoid the 100 mile round trip to Maidstone which although the guys there do an excellent job and are really friendly, the cost of 50 litres of full pushed up the price somewhat... Anyhow, I think we've solved the problem but I'm not saying anything else for now. Apologies in advance if the website goes a tad quiet over the next few months, Claire and me are moving home so things may end up a little bit all over the place but we'll do our best to keep you informed of things as and when they happen, and don't forget that both The Bamford & Sea;y Bus Collection and Southern Counties are on Facebook where you'll find additional news and additional pictures.
16/5/2013 May updates. Our sister site at Southern Counties Omnibus Collection has been updated with news and pictures of the recent work on Leyland National 1178. At the same time I decided to get our crew room on 5807 operational giving us somewhere to sit in the dry and have a hot drink or hot food. This now done but still needs completing. It's one of those jobs that isn't connect to keeping the buses on the road but still needs to be done.
22/7/2012 5137 finally fixed.I've finally fixed the pesky water leak on 5137 and she drove around the yard today for the first time in a year. This of course is the problem with not having inspection pits...
1178 was also whisked around the yard by Claire and is now parked in the line up with the 'deckers in the fleet as opposed to being shoved at the back. With 7980 no longer here it does allow us more space. 31/10/2011 YouTube Bonanza!Andy and me have been busy down the yard exercising the buses. I decided to video on my phone while Andy took them around. I hope you enjoy them if only for the sound effects! 28/8/2011 1178 front panel sorted out!Andy managed to refit the front panel on the National that literally fell out. Investigations revealed that the bus had received accident damage on this near side corner which had probably popped the rubber off of the lip. We do have an original Pay As You Enter sign but if was too small to fit so the original, which broke in half when it fell out, was refitted with some washing up liquid and sealant!
1/6/2011 Naughty Nuw!Nuw our Titan failed her MOT due to some of the rear lights failing at the test centre, typical eh? She goes back for a part re test on the 17th which will give me chance to get the faulty switches replaced.
On a brighter note, I now have a windscreen for National 1178 so once everything with Nuw is sorted out I can get this fitted. 7/5/2011 Work starts on 1178I have started working on our National 1178 (EFN178L) with a view to put her up for test after Nuw goes up. This will probably be sometime in June (all being well)! I've started stripping down the area around the wheelchair door to see whats involved in putting a standard window and panel back in and I must say, she looks pretty good. Oddly enough, the rusty bits are what was put in there to support the door and aren't original to the old girl - this was similar to DMS550 where the window had been put in where the front doors were.
3/5/2011 2011 ShowsAs stated on the Picture of the month, our buses will be at lots of local events as per norm but we haven't yet decided which ones where. I'm currently getting 7980 through her test then I'll be putting Nuw the Titan through followed by 1178 our National. I'm hoping to have 7681, 7980 AND 1178 at the Herne Bay Rally this year and maybe at the Friends of the East Kent Running Day too.... watch this space. 7681 is going on the road a little later this year, probably May or June so that she can stay mobile a little later in the year. As to the events, we will be at Sellindge on the 28th/29th May (I think that's the right date!) and Preston Steam Rally on the 25th and 26th June.
