As you probably realise, I do like a good VR. I was out and about in Newhaven the other day and encountered this beauty. Former M&D HKE690L is now working with Seaford & District.
Sometimes you have to eat humble pie and my comments "there's no plans to return it to the road" when I first got 7656 may result in me having to munch on a HUGE slice...
OK, so nothing is definate and it's certainly not going to be an overnight thing, but it's possible. The seats have been removed which has allowed a inspection of the chassis with the floor up and it MIGHT be repairable. She was dispatched to a local friendly engineering firm last week for an honest assessment. Remember, since her 'bump' chassis technology has improved no end. The bigger problem would be the electrics....
Earlier this week I was a very proud uncle when my niece got married in Margate. As you can see, I provided the wedding transport with two of the Metrocabs in my collection.
I can't help but wonder how many of my generation of bus enthusiasts started off with a collection like this? I know I did! This nostalgic line up was seen today at Dover Transport Museum.
As you can see, the lower deck on MFN41R is starting to get a bit full of the bits and pieces required to turn her downstairs into a bus again. Seat frames, hand rails and interior trim all litter the inside awaiting cleaning and sorting out.
The plan for "Muffin" (as she is affectionately known) is to get her back on the road for next year. Long term will see the lower put back to being a bus whilst the upper deck will remain pretty much 'as is' giving us some much needed accommodation for the weekend shows.
Had a fun day on the Thanet Vintage Bus Roadrun on 31st May- despite the miserable weather!
