Despite being laid up for the last few years with mechanical problems and used as our storeshed, 5807 often performs circuits of the yard to keep her mobile. I'm hoping as time permits to have a play with 5807's gearbox / flywheel to see if that improves things. If successful it could result in her being returned to the road and restored to bus status depending on several factors such as availability of seats and internal fittings and what we can do with all the crap we've stored on her!
Titan T553 or Nuw as she is known, has had her destination equipment fitted and will be on the road this week. Hopefully she will be attending various events this season still in her 'as withdrawn from Roberts Coaches' condition. I hope she'll be at Herne Bay, Preston and maybe Dover this year. Eventually she will be reunited with her original number of NUW553Y and will be repainted. Due to 7681's gearbox issues (see picture of the month Feb 2012) Nuw will be used in her place.
On New Years Day, Preston Court Farm held an open day. This of course is the venue for the Preston Steam Rally and East Kent Show held in June every year. It was strange to visit it on a cold wet winters day and not in the blazing sun. It also seemed slightly sad to see the normally heaving showground empty apart from a couple of resident horses. Such a contrast to the weekend of the show and the area is awash with stalls, trade stands, vintage tractors, military vehicles, the funfair and of course our buses.
Thought I'd share this with you. For my 'day job' I drive on the Canterbury Park & Ride buses which are operated by Kent Top Travel. The buses are based in Canterbury and the following pictures show a average night at our garage as the buses return and are washed. The buses are all fueled at offsite filling stations (single deckers at Morrisons, double deckers at Esso) before coming in. Each driver sweeps, cleans and mops his vehicle when on a late shift. Most of the P&R services are operated by Optare bodied Volvo B7 single deck vehicles or Optare bodied Volvo B9 double deck buses. We do have 3 VDL SD200 buses at Canterbury (sometimes 2 depending on allocation) of which are also used for P&R work with the third sometimes on the 666 Ashford to Faversham route. We also have a selection of Enviros which can be normally found on the 36 or 666 service but also act as spare P&R vehicles.
