I had a great day out yesterday taking one of my Metrocab taxis to the Colne Valley Railway vintage vehicle show. Colne Valley Railway is of course in Sible Hedingham Essex and is a really friendly little line. Unfortunately the landowners have decided that the railway no longer figures in the plans for the site and it looks set to close at the end of the year.
Sometimes in vehicle preservation it's easy to get tied up with small jobs that seem to take forever. Getting 5137 ready for the MOT certainly feels like that with a broken seat that was very reluctant to move. However, today I managed to free the errant seat leg and replace it with one from 7656 (see, bit by bit she's returning to the road!) which has solved that issue. Also, not bus related but within the collection, I did a tyre change on RLH the Metrocab and painted the wheels just to tidy her up a little. Why? Well, next weekend she will make her rally debut and will represent Southern Counties Omnibus Collection at the Colne Valley Railway in Essex. OK, ideally it would be nice to take a bus up there but the cost of fuel would be huge and there would only be 3 people travelling.... Also, at least we're not stuck at 45mph either, although the taxi is happy to cruise around the 55mph mark.
