This year continues to fly by so quickly. As stated in Picture Of The Month, Nuw attended Deal Motor Show on 25th May, the full report can be seen here. We really enjoyed this show and I took some lovely pictures of Nuw heading to the event stuck in traffic. Paul and myself have also started stripping out 7681's rear end in readiness to get to the leaking oil seal in the prop shaft. Along with 1178 that's our two big projects started now. The parts for 1178's metal work are being all sorted out by Paul and will hopefully be fitted by us when we get time. I'm hoping this month to put 5137 up for test again now that the brakes have been sorted out (back in March). The delay in sending her back for test was trying to find a local test centre to avoid the 100 mile round trip to Maidstone which although the guys there do an excellent job and are really friendly, the cost of 50 litres of full pushed up the price somewhat... Anyhow, I think we've solved the problem but I'm not saying anything else for now. Apologies in advance if the website goes a tad quiet over the next few months, Claire and me are moving home so things may end up a little bit all over the place but we'll do our best to keep you informed of things as and when they happen, and don't forget that both The Bamford & Sea;y Bus Collection and Southern Counties are on Facebook where you'll find additional news and additional pictures.
This pictures from our trip to the South East Bus Festival are now on line and can be seen HERE. This was a really fantastic day out and if you couldn't make it do try to visit next year. You won't be disappointed.
As most of the work on 5137 was completed by Paul today, I decided to commence the overhaul of Nuw the Titan's interior. Her LT panels will become Stagecoach blue and eventually all her LT seating will be swapped for Stagecoach trimmed seats making her interior all rather blue but clean looking. This will go well with the exterior when done, as she will don the traditional Devon General livery and the older Devon General vehicles had blue interiors. Nuw's interior will be completed with a mix of paint and sticky vinyl.
With all the cold wet weather, it hasn't really been the weather for working on the buses in bleak windswept yard. However, with a bit of a respite from the nastiness a few weekends ago, Claire and myself decided to give some of the girls a run up. Nuw was fired up and turned around as she has a rather leaky window over the stairs that was getting the worst of the weather. When it warms up, the mastick will be out to fix the gap in the rubber I hadn't spotted until now. As noted earlier, all of Nuw's seats have been lifted up and stored on the seat backs to prevent water damage rotting the side of the cushions. This does seem to be problem in Titans, not helped by the way the seat material covers the whole seat where as with our ECW Bristol VRs, they have leatherette trim at the side of the cushion which helps protect them somewhat from the damp. I had hoped to start working on Nuw's rear driver bulkhead but on checking our glass stocks, we don't have the part to replace the board behind the cab seat so this will have to wait.
7041 (MFN41R) was also given a run up and moved around the yard. Alas, she couldn't be driven all the way around due to it being a tad too muddy and I didn't fancy her sliding into a caravan or getting stuck! The usual leaky ECW windscreen has made the soft trim on the dash area a bit green. I removed this and the trim on the cab door to reveal the original 'MIND THE STEP' sign! It needs a clean up still but is very tidy underneath that trim. When the weather warms up I will attempt to sort out 7041's ball joint too, making her another step forward to an MOT.
After uploading some of Herne Bay's pictures to the computer, I realised I'd not added the Preston or Chilli Farm pictures to the site. Apologies. Things are a tad busy, normal service will shortly be resumed! I've now added the reports with Preston Steam Rally and Chilli Farm now live. Just click on the links to visit the galleries.
Good news is that T553 or Nuw as she is known has passed her MOT. Paul (owner of DMS 550) came along on the test and ended up helping fix a rather annoying oil leak caused by a fractured pipe to the gearbox. Nuw will be at Dover Transport Museum tomorrow (Sunday 17th) and at Preston at the end of the month.
On Sunday 10th June 2012 we attended the Thanet Road Run in our Titan 'Nuw'. Just the two buses were there this year, us and Paul Houselander in RVB977S The Pride Of Thanet open top. The run commenced at Ramsgate and passed through Broadstairs, St Peters, Palm Bay, Margate and Westgate where we stopped for lunch. We then continued onwards to Minnis Bay before returning via Minster, Manston airport, Westwood Bus Garage and finishing back in Ramsgate. A full report and pictures to follow soon.
Nuw captured on Claire's Blackberry thrashing down the M2 motorway in Kent.
What a fantastic day out at this event. As stated in the Picture of the Month, it would be fantastic if this was to become an annual event and maybe even stretch it to a two day show. There really is too much to see and do in one day, especially with a mile of private roads in the showground offering vehicles a chance to stretch their legs. This was also Nuw's first bus rally as a preserved bus. A full report will be following on the website soon, but for now here is a taster of an excellent rally.
Claire and myself were busy working on Nuw the Titan today, just making her look a bit better and trying to fix the drivers side windscreen wiper that had broken in the blizzard. The destination equipment has been installed and just needs proper masking up to complete it. She is also due a wax and polish too in the next week. I've also added some fleet numbers to her. She now carries her London numbers on the sides and an honorary Stagecoach East Kent number front and rear to celebrate the M&D and EK Bus Club's 60th birthday. I've got a few other small jobs to do on her before she is ready for her first trip to a bus rally on Saturday 31st March at Detling Showground.
